Payment Methods Available Through Stripe
When you use the Stripe integration in SOLO Server, your customers gain access to Stripe's full library of 100+ payment methods, including credit cards, digital wallets, buy now pay later options, bank transfers, and many regional payment methods. This article is a complete reference of what's available and how it's managed.
How Stripe Decides Which Payment Methods to Show
You don't need to manage the list of payment methods customers see manually. SOLO Server uses Stripe's Payment Element, which automatically shows each customer the methods most relevant to them based on:
- Their country and currency. Stripe filters out methods that aren't supported for the customer's location.
- The transaction amount. Some payment methods have minimum or maximum thresholds.
- Which methods you've enabled in your Stripe dashboard. Stripe enables a default set automatically; you can turn additional methods on as needed.
For most authors, the default set of payment methods Stripe enables for new accounts (cards plus the most common digital wallets) covers the majority of customers worldwide. A US customer paying in USD will typically see card payments, Apple Pay, Google Pay, Cash App Pay, Link, and similar wallets. A European customer paying in EUR will see those same global options alongside locally relevant methods like SEPA Direct Debit, iDEAL, or Klarna.

Configuring Payment Methods
Payment methods are enabled and managed from your Stripe dashboard under the payment methods settings, not within SOLO Server. Stripe enables a sensible default set of methods for new accounts, and you can turn additional methods on as needed. Some payment methods are invite-only and require contacting Stripe directly.
For the most current list of supported methods and country availability, see Stripe's supported payment methods documentation.
Common Questions
Do I have to enable all payment methods individually?
No. Stripe enables a default set of payment methods for new accounts that covers most authors' needs (credit cards plus the most common digital wallets). You only need to enable additional methods if you want to expand the options available to your customers.
Will all customers see all payment methods?
No. Stripe automatically filters payment methods based on the customer's country, currency, and the transaction amount. A customer in Germany paying in EUR will see different methods than a customer in the US paying in USD, even with the same payment methods enabled in your Stripe dashboard.
Can I customize the order in which payment methods appear?
Stripe's Payment Element dynamically reorders payment methods to show the most relevant options first based on the customer's location and other characteristics. This is designed to optimize for conversion. Manual reordering is generally not necessary.
Can my customers pay with cryptocurrency?
Stripe supports stablecoin and cryptocurrency payments where it has enabled them. Cryptocurrency support outside of Stripe's offerings is not part of the SOLO Server Stripe integration.
