Importing license and customer data into SOLO Server Automation

Whether you are coming from your own or a third-party licensing solution, there are advantages to importing existing customer and license data into SOLO Server Automation.

Ideally, the new release of your software that uses the SoftwareKey System would require all customers to activate with a new license from SOLO Server, as this bypasses the need to covert existing local licenses to a SoftwareKey format. For example, with imported license data, the customer would be able to activate with their new license, and it would enforce the same license entitlements.

SOLO Server assigns a unique License ID and Activation Password to each license, but it is also possible to assign your own unique serial number that can be used as the activation credential instead (when using Protection PLUS 5 SDK). This can be useful if you want to match an existing format that would be more familiar to your customers.

Even if customers won't be activating with the imported licenses, having imported license data gives you the potential benefits of:

  • Identifying previous customers to provide support
  • Offering discounted upgrades through SOLO Server's integrated eCommerce based on imported license data

Options for Importing Data

Unfortunately, there are no generic import capabilities in SOLO Server, since there is often business-specific logic or transformation that must take place during import. Getting your data imported and transformed can be handled in two ways:

  1. SOLO Server Automation has several Web Service interfaces to programmatically add data into the database. You could write a program to loop through your data and add Customer and License records, based upon your business requirements.
  2. You could supply a Comma Separated Value (CSV) file with your customer data and use our professional services to write a customized import script to perform the import and data transformation, based upon your specific business requirements.

A fixed-cost proposal for our professional service option can be provided after we review a sample CSV file with the data to be imported.
