SoftwareKey Pricing and Purchase Options
SoftwareKey aims to provide a balanced licensing solution. Our services are not the cheapest option, nor are they the most expensive. We keep standard pricing lower by offering several self-service options that let you implement our solution on your own, supported by our online documentation, tutorials, webinars, and sample applications that you can compile and run. We also offer several levels of support, depending on your needs and budget.
Standard Pricing Plans

The technology behind the SoftwareKey System has been in use for over 25 years. For a long time, the various Protection PLUS licensing clients were sold separately. A great deal has changed since then, and nearly all customers now use the Protection + Automation, which combines the Protection PLUS licensing clients with SOLO Server Automation. As we added new features that offer more ways to license your software and maintain control, we revised the pricing plans available to customers over time.
Why We Simplified Pricing
Our legacy pricing plans included several one-time setup fees based on many factors, and the monthly fee was calculated the same way. As the model evolved, it became increasingly complex and difficult to explain. We needed a clearer way to communicate SoftwareKey System pricing that would benefit both customers and our staff.
We invested significant effort analyzing the usage patterns of our existing customers. The analysis made it clear that our customer base fell into a small number of well-defined categories, which confirmed that the simplified-pricing approach was the right direction.
What the Monthly Plans Include
The current monthly plans move away from a complex a-la-carte model to one that includes what most customers need. The plans provide:
- Easy access to all of the Protection PLUS licensing clients needed for your products.
- New licensing features such as Cloud-Controlled Network Floating Licensing.
- A no-setup-fee option for "DIY" customers who are comfortable designing their own license implementation.
- GDPR support.
Legacy Plans and API Transaction Fees
For existing customers on a legacy plan, there is the option to switch to the newer inclusive plans. Note that the newer plans are subject to our API Transaction Fee Policy, so review the terms of your current plan before switching.
Frequently Asked Questions
Will existing customers be forced to choose one of these new plans?
No. Customers who want to use newer licensing features, such as Cloud-Controlled Network Floating Licensing, may need to upgrade their plan. In addition, a small number of customers (mainly those who use our services in a non-typical way) may find a price advantage in switching to one of the new plans. We periodically review accounts and contact customers as part of that process.
Can I switch from one plan to another?
Yes. You can switch from one plan to another at any time.
What is the cancellation policy?
You can cancel the services at any time with 30 days of written notice.
